Partial CRC Checksum of SCTP for Error Control over Wireless Networks
نویسندگان
چکیده
In the StreamControl Transmission Protocol (SCTP), when a portion of a packet is corrupted, the entire packet will be discarded at the receiver side. This may result in degradation of the throughput of SCTP over wireless networks with a high bit error rate. This paper proposes a new error control scheme of SCTP using a partial Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC) checksum to enhance the throughput performance, in which a new ‘checksum chunk’ is introduced to effectively identify any corruptions of data chunks contained in the SCTP packet. In the proposed scheme, an SCTP data packet can carry one or more data chunks depending on the channel condition, and the newly defined ‘checksum’ chunk will contain the partial CRC checksums of the individual data chunks and/or the base header of the packet. By referring to these partial checksums, the receiver can discard only the corrupted data chunks, whereas the other available data chunks can be recovered. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme significantly provides better performance than the standard SCTP in the wireless networks.

Header Error Protection for Multimedia Data Transmission in Wireless Ad Hoc Networks
Multimedia applications have different Quality of Service (QoS) requirements. In a multi-hop network, the throughput is essentially important for real-time applications due to their high bit rate requirement. In the wireless networks, error comes from fading, noise, or interference. Link layer error control will have impact on the end-toend throughput. In this paper we propose a two stage error...

Stream Control Transmission Protocol(SCTP) is a reliable transport protocol combining the advantages of TCP and UDP. SCTP has many desirable features including multihoming, multistreaming, and partial data reliability. These features have made SCTP perform much more effectively in multimedia networking applications. They have also worked better in wireless environment which traditional transpor...

In this chapter, we discuss the transport layer design issues in a mobile wireless networks. The focus will be put on two transport protocols: Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) and Stream Control Transmission Protocol (SCTP). TCP is the dominant transport protocol currently used for most Internet services such as Web browsing, file transfer, remote login etc. SCTP is a recently developed prot...
متن کاملTimed PR-SCTP for Fast Voice/Video over IP in Wired/Wireless Environments
IIn this paper, we have successfully implemented a seamless handoff between heterogeneous networks to achieve a fast voice/video over IP (V oIP ) with Partially Reliable Stream Control Transport Protocol (PR-SCTP) instead of TCP or UDP. In order to improve real-time video/voice streaming over IP, the conventional framework IHU has been remodeled as a new framework called SCTP-IHU that can simul...
